The Biomedical Technician primarily performs maintenance, regular servicing, cleaning, and repairs of medical equipment in the hospital institution following the organization’s standard corrective maintenance procedure. S/he carries out essential checks to guarantee maximum efficiency and availability of equipment, identify potential problems, and ensure timeliness of reporting equipment concern for swift resolution.
S/he assists the Biomedical Technologists in ensuring that other healthcare staff members use the medical equipment properly and safely. Accordingly, the Biomedical Technician stays up to date on the most recent technologies emerging in the medical field, increasing his/her familiarity on the application of engineering principles and materials technology toward the equipment upkeep process.Â
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for assuring the availability of all tools and materials needed for his/her functionÂ
- Relays any information or provides suggestions to his/her immediate superior regarding any issues / concerns in the practice of his/her function in order to continuously improve the quality of service in the unit.  Â
- Recommends implementable innovations and improvements in the practice of his/her functions. Â
- Immediately informs her/his immediate superior of any and all deviations from standards within the same day of the incident.Â
- May be requested to train and mentor junior personnel and tasked to provide performance assessment of staff.Â
- Provides support to the unit within his/her level in addressing the needs or queries of internal/external customers.Â
- Inspects and tests biomedical equipment prior to use. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance when needed and with the supervision of either the Biomedical Technologists or the Sr. Supervisors. Â
- Investigates reported failure of biomedical equipment. Â
- Evaluates the degree of damage of equipment and recommends solutions to Biomedical Technologist, Biomedical Technologist Supervisor or Biomedical Technologist IIIÂ
- Does physical inventory and keeps a record of all registered equipment in the database or on hard files, e.g., testing schedules and procedures, equipment data file, service summary report, etc. Â
- Transports and conducts functional testing of portable machines for bedside procedures, e.g., Ultrasound Machine, etc. Â
- Coordinates with the end-user or department representative during and after any maintenance procedure. Ensures to keep the immediate superior updated of the status of task at hand. Â
- Communicates to the immediate superior or the Biomedical Engineering Manager any technical issues or concerns beyond his/her scope in a timely manner. Â
- Participates in the continuous quality improvement of service, safety procedures and activities. Â
- Participates in meetings, workshops, technical trainings, and upgrades to perform job functions efficiently.Â
- Assists the immediate superior in conducting technical skills and improving work performance of new team members.  Â
Qualifications
- Undergraduate of any Engineering course preferably Electronics, Electrical or Allied Sciences; or a graduate of related technical vocational course. NC II certificate in TESDA electronic courses is a plus but not necessary.
- With at least 2 to 4 years of related experience.Â
- Can read and interpret technical diagrams of equipment.
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
