ABOUT ABDCI

“A thousand journeys begin with
a single step.”

More than a hundred years ago, a group of visionary Chinese businessmen set foot on Philippine shores with a dream— to build a better future, not just for their community, but for the people of Cebu.

And so, the Asociacion Benevola de Cebu Inc. (ABDCI) was born.

In 1909, the group started a small clinic which was open to all—planting the seed for what would become Chong Hua Hospital, now the largest and most advanced healthcare provider in Visayas and Mindanao.

Today, ABDCI stands on three pillars, each reflecting the enduring legacy of service, compassion, and progress.

From that humble clinic grew a world-class institution: Chong Hua Hospital—with over 1,000 beds, more than a thousand physicians, and 2,000 dedicated employees, all united by one purpose: to provide expert, patient-centered care.

That initial step has blossomed into a remarkable journey of compassion, community, and unwavering dedication to health and well-being.

The vision expanded through Chong Hua Health Services Inc., which operates the innovative Chong Hua Medical Mall—a unique blend of medical care and lifestyle convenience, offering diverse services under one roof.

Honoring life’s final chapter with dignity, the ABDCI Memorial Group upholds respect and tradition through the Benevola Memorial Garden and the Cebu Chinese Cemetery.

With the support of the Filipino-Chinese community, ABDCI is restoring this sacred site—transforming it into a heritage park that preserves the memory of those who came before us.

Beyond hospitals and memorials, ABDCI solidifies and expands community-building efforts with the official launch of the Benevola de Cebu Foundation which institutionalize our commitment to programs on health, education, disaster relief, and cultural preservation.

Our story is not just about institutions—it’s about lives changed, hope restored, and a community united through service. The legacy of our founding fathers lives on—in every patient healed, every life honored, and every community uplifted. We carry their legacy forward—with purpose, unity, and a deep commitment to generations yet to come.
