Chong Hua Hospital is looking to hire an experienced and highly dynamic Pharmacy Assistant who aids in accepting medication orders and prescriptions for dispensing, dispensing operations and dispensary maintenance and housekeeping. S/He performs certain technical functions associated with drug distribution in accordance with the pharmacy legislation and hospital policies and regulations. The incumbent may be assigned to the main pharmacy or to satellite areas where technical assistance is needed.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs accurate and timely documentation as required.
- Prepares and submits all required reports / documents as assigned.
- Responsible for keeping his/her workplace clean and organized.
- Escalates or informs the immediate superior regarding low stock level supplies / materials for replenishment.
- Responsible for assuring the availability of all tools and materials needed for his/her function
- Relays any information or provides suggestions to his/her immediate superior regarding any issues / concerns in the practice of his/her function in order to continuously improve the quality of service in the unit.
- Recommends implementable innovations and improvements in the practice of his/her functions.
- Immediately informs her/his immediate superior of any and all deviations from standards within the same day of the incident.
- May be requested to train and mentor junior personnel and tasked to provide performance assessment of staff.
- Provides support to the unit within his/her level in addressing the needs or queries of internal/external customers.
- Adheres to Pharmacy Regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Accepts prescription for dispensing and confirms prescription validity.
- Performs clerical functions associated with prescription dispensing.
- Ensures that all prescribing requirements are met prior to medication dispensing.
- Prepares all medication requests correctly. Determines and verifies specific transactions such as cash discounts, senior citizen or PWD discounts, etc.
- Performs “faltas” or replenishment of stocks in the display area.
- Prepares and dispenses replenishment of floor stocks such as e-cart, urgent cabinet, unit stock and commonly used medications and fluids.
- Receives and double checks unused medications, fluids and supplies returned to the pharmacy.
- Processes reversal of charges for returned items.
- Properly places returned items back to the display area.
- Performs emergency purchase of medications from identified vendors and licensed pharmacies.
- Prepares stocks for transfer between hospitals.
- Carries out the tasks endorsed by the previous shift.
- Coordinates with the pharmacist to verify the accuracy and validity of prescriptions
- Coordinates with the pharmacist in dispensing generic prescriptions.
- Answers queries on stock availability and price.
- Coordinates with the nurse or unit personnel for opened items or patients’ stocks that can’t be returned for reversal of charges.
- Coordinates with billing specialists for patients’ accounts that are partially settled.
- Escalates concerns to immediate superior or directs these to the person if it is beyond his/her level of capacity.
- Properly endorses to the next shift any pending transactions and significant issues encountered during the shift.
- Performs tagging of high-alert medications and look-alike sound-alike drugs using color-alert stickers.
- Conducts monthly monitoring of near-expiry medications and floor stock inventory.
- Prepares and arranges all documents such as the Pharmacy Issuance Slips and Pharmacy Return Slips, and medications in the display area.
- Keeps his/her assigned shelf clean and in order.
Qualifications
- Must have at least two years of college or a senior high school graduate preferably in any paramedical course (Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Nursing, Laboratory Science and or other allied courses); graduate is preferred but not required.
- National Certificate (NC) III for Pharmacy Services.
- Possess a current certificate in Hands-only CPR Training.
- Knowledgeable in basic Microsoft Office applications.
- Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
- Has an exceptionally good sense of customer service.
- Must be knowledgeable on the basic Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective communication skills. Proficiency in the Visayan dialect and/or Tagalog is required; ability to communicate in English is an advantage.
