MANDAUE CITY, Cebu<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Ten (10) Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from Mandaue City received mobility support through the\u00a0Lakbay\u00a0Alalay\u00a0Program of\u00a0Benevola\u00a0de Cebu Foundation Inc. (BDCFI), through the donation of five (5) wheelchairs and five (5) quad canes to support their mobility, independence, and overall well-being.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The assistive devices and grocery packages were formally turned over by BDCFI Executive Director Wilhelm Wade A. Eusores, alongside Mandaue City Health Officer Dr. Debbie Catulong, Mandaue City Executive Secretary Atty. Riczon Gingoyon, PDAO Head Joseph\u00a0Jumantoc, and representatives from the Mandaue City Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO). The turnover ceremony was attended by the beneficiaries and their families.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each of the 10 beneficiaries received a mobility aid based on their individual needs. Five beneficiaries personally received quad canes, while family representatives received wheelchairs on behalf of five beneficiaries, including those who were bedridden and unable to attend the turnover.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative forms part of BDCFI\u2019s\u00a0Lakbay\u00a0Alalay\u00a0Program, which\u00a0seeks\u00a0to support individuals facing mobility challenges by providing assistive devices and other forms of\u00a0assistance\u00a0that promote greater accessibility, independence, and inclusion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to share that this activity reflects the commitment of\u00a0Benevola\u00a0de Cebu Foundation Inc., together with our Board of Trustees led by our Chairman, Benito Gaisano, and our President, Dr. Helen Po, to continue supporting programs that promote dignity, inclusion, and opportunities for those who need them most. The activity was conducted in partnership with the Mandaue City Government through the City Health Office and the Persons with Disability Affairs Office, underscoring their shared commitment to promoting the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joseph Jumantoc, Head of the Mandaue City Persons with Disability Affairs Office, expressed his appreciation for the partnership and its support for the city\u2019s PWD community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank\u00a0Benevola\u00a0de Cebu Foundation Inc. and Chong Hua Hospital for giving our office the opportunity to be part of this and for enabling our PWD members to avail themselves of assistive devices, such as quad canes and wheelchairs. We hope that this partnership will continue so that more PWDs, especially indigent members, can\u00a0benefit\u00a0from it. We believe that the donated assistive devices will\u00a0greatly help\u00a0our PWDs improve their mobility and independence,\u201d\u00a0Jumantoc\u00a0said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the beneficiaries was Vincent Caba\u00f1a, who shared how the\u00a0assistance\u00a0would help improve his day-to-day mobility and independence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to the donor, BDCFI, for giving us this new quad cane.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0been hoping to receive one since 2017, and I only got one today. Thank you so much,\u201d Caba\u00f1a said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beyond providing assistive devices, the initiative\u00a0demonstrates\u00a0how partnerships between civil society organizations and local governments can help create more accessible and inclusive communities where persons with disabilities are supported, respected, and empowered.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
